Day 266 - The Kids Aren't Alright

It turns out that the person who created the Facebook poll asking whether President Obama should be killed was, as the Huffington Post reports it, a juvenile. And apparently, the juvenile isn't being punished for creating the poll.

And that, right there, is another example of why the that generation is going to run roughshod over the country - no one is holding them responsible for their actions and they get to be coddled by everyone from their parents to, apparently, the government.

We hold forums on how to stop bullying in schools. We take away advanced placement classes because we don't want the kids in "regular" classes to feel like they aren't special. We make sure that every kid gets a trophy, even if they come in last place in a competition. Everybody is special, every kid is unique and no child should ever feel like they've lost, because everyone is a winner.

The real world doesn't work that way. If it did, someone would have felt bad about me not having a job and hired me already, because everyone should deserve to work. But just like everyone else, I need to earn my paycheck.

I'm not saying we should throw this kid in a federal prison, but when did threatening the life of the president become something out of a Hallmark television movie, where everything is alright at the end and everyone shares a big laugh about what just happened? Shouldn't there be some consequence for the kid? At the every least, Facebook should ban the juvenile from being a part of this virtual community. If Facebook doesn't ban the kid, then I hope the kid's parents took away computer privileges for a while. Unfortunately, if the kid was posting a poll like that, the parents are probably Republicans and were proud of their child's strong stance against the socialist black president.

Sigh.

And we wonder why this country is so messed up.

It's Been a While

Back in college, I got hooked on a delivery place for (usually) late-night post-drinking munchies. D.P. Dough made several different kinds of calzones. My favorite was the Buffalo Zone (later renamed the Buff Zone, for reasons beyond my understanding). It was, unsurprisingly, a calzone stuffed with buffalo chicken. Redistricting Battle

My story last week didn't make the paper's website, so I'm posting it here.  Vigilance Called For In Redistricting Battle Panelists at a forum on redistricting Tuesday night, Feb. 21, urged a largely Hispanic crowd in Elmhurst to call on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to veto the proposal as it currently stands.             “The Governor made a campaign promise, if the lines weren’t suitable, he would veto the lines,” Kenneth D. Torture

It's been a long time since I've written anything other than a cover letter. Frankly, while I try to change things up every now and then, there's very little creativity that goes into writing one of those things. "Dear Sir or Madam, as the case may be, I'm awesome. Hire me. I know you won't, it's OK. But I'm trying to pretend that all hope is not lost here, just to save some face. Thanks for pretending to take the time to review stuff, Me." Hmmm. I may use that next time I send something out. Today, I shall try to write, because it's Wednesday and why not? Because I enjoy torturing myself, I will post what I write right here. In fact, I'll just write here. Maybe. It sure beats applying for jobs, but it's not as much fun as playing video games, so I'll do some of that, too. I'm babbling. Good bye.
